Evis Sala, MD, PhD, FRCR, FRCP

Prof.Evis Sala is Minister of Health and Social Welfare of Albania since September 2025 and holds a tenure as Professor of Radiology at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Rome, Italy.

She served as the Director of the Radiology Training Program at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore and Chair of Department of Diagnostic Imaging and Radiotherapy at Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli IRCC, Rome Italy until September 2025.

Previously she was the Professor of Oncological Imaging at the University of Cambridge, UK and co-led the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Centre Advanced Cancer Imaging and the Integrated Cancer Medicine Programs. From 2012 to 2018, she served as the Professor of Radiology at Weil Cornell Medical College and Chief of Body Imaging Service at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York.

Prof. Sala obtained her MD from University of Tirana in 1991 and an MPhil and a PhD in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from the University of Cambridge in 2020, where subsequently completed her training in Radiology.

Her seminal work in the field of radiogenomics and artificial intelligence (AI) integrates quantitative imaging methods for tumour detection, evaluation of tumour heterogeneity and prediction of outcome. She is the author of over 340 publications in international journals and the cofounder of Lucida Medical, focusing on developing software to help clinicians find cancer, using AI and MRI.

In recognition for her contribution to oncological imaging she was elected Fellow of the International Cancer Imaging Society in 2013, the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine in 2015, the European Society for Urogenital Radiology (ESUR) in 2018 and was awarded an Honorary Membership of Radiology Society of North America in 2022 and Japanese Society of Radiology in 2024. Prof. Sala is also ESUR’s President-Elect and an Appointed Expert of the Comprehensive Cancer Infrastructures for the European Union (CCI4EU).
