Klodiana Spahiu

Dr. Klodiana Spahiu has served as Albania’s Minister of Health and Social Welfare since September 2026 and holds the academic title of Doctor of Medical Sciences.

Dr. Spahiu graduated in General Medicine from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Tirana in 1997. From 1998 to 2002, she specialized in cardiology at the same faculty, based at the University Hospital Center “Mother Teresa” (QSUT) in Tirana.

Over the years, she has undertaken further training in non-invasive cardiology, including echocardiography, ambulatory ECG monitoring (Holter ECG), and carotid Doppler ultrasonography, at the Catholic University “Sacro Cuore” and the “Agostino Gemelli” Faculty of Medicine and Surgery in Rome, Italy. Between October and December 2005, she completed specialized training in invasive cardiology, including cardiac catheterization and coronary angiography, at Santa Chiara Hospital in Pisa, Italy.

She completed postgraduate studies from 2003 to 2004 at the Department of Preclinical Subjects of the Faculty of Medicine and later obtained a Professional Master’s degree in Health Management (2012–2014).

Dr. Klodiana Spahiu practiced medicine at the First Cardiology Clinic of QSUT and worked as a cardiologist in the Pathology Department of Durrës Hospital from 2003 to 2009, after which she was appointed Director of the hospital.

She also has extensive teaching experience. She served as a lecturer in the Department of Preclinical Subjects at the University of Tirana (2002–2003), as an external lecturer in physiology at UFO University (2006), and, since 2008, as a lecturer in clinical cardiology practice at the University “Our Lady of Good Counsel” in Tirana.
